0

In today’s era, a health insurance plan is a vital financial product. The rising medical costs and inflation across the globe, has made availing healthcare services quite hefty on our pockets. While the people in India are understanding the importance of health insurance and proceeding to buy one, many others are still reluctant towards it.

More so, many low-income earning families in the country do not have access to basic healthcare facilities. This leads to a significant number of deaths each year in India. So, to take preventive measures and make healthcare facilities available to all, the government has been taking certain initiatives.

Here are five health insurance online schemes by the Government of India.

  1. Ayushman Bharat Yojana

The Ayushman Bharat Yojana was designed based on the Universal Health Coverage (UHC). There are two components under this scheme – Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).

The primary aim of this health insurance scheme is to provide basic healthcare facilities to the poor and vulnerable families across the country. Under this scheme, each eligible family will receive health coverage of up to INR 5 lakh each year.

  1. Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana

The Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana (AABY) is a health insurance scheme for people involved in vocations such as carpentry, fishing, handloom weaving, etc. The scheme has 48 such vocations covered under it. The premium amount to be paid for this policy is INR 200. The eligibility criteria are that the primary earning member of the family should be involved in one of 48 vocations covered under the scheme.

  1. Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is initiated for the Central Government employees. The scheme has been in existence for over six decades and has covered over 35 lakh employees and pensioners under it. It offers health coverage benefits such as hospitalisation, domiciliary care, Allopathy and Homeopathy treatments, and more.

  1. Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana

In India, many people lose their lives in an accident. To ensure that adequate accidental coverage is offered to the people, the government launched the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). People between the age of 18 to 70 years can avail the benefits offered by the policy. It offers annual coverage of INR 1 lakh (in case of partial disability) and INR 2 lakh (in case of permanent disability or death) for nominal premium charges of INR 12.

  1. Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana

At times, people working in unorganised sectors do have access to health insurance. They have to rely on their life savings to cover the medical expenses as and when they arise. To ensure the people working in the unorganised sector and falling below the poverty line have adequate health coverage, the government launched Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY).

To Conclude

Apart from the ones mentioned above, the government has several other health insurance schemes that offer access to healthcare facilities when and as needed. Creating awareness regarding them and ensuring that people can benefit from it will help save lives in the long run.
